Mary Washington Women's Basketball Takes Down Salisbury, 71-47

The Mary Washington women's basketball team (10-6) blew out Salisbury on Wednesday night in Fredericksburg, Va., 71-47 as Jordan Carpenter led all scorers with 21 points. Carpenter, who leads the team in scoring, is now just 30 points away from clinching 1,000 career points.

The Eagles were victories in all facets on Wednesday night -- offense, defense and on the boards. The Eagles scored their 71 points on 27-of-58 shooting (46.6%), which included a 3-pointer knocked down by Megan Baxter.

On defense, Salisbury didn't score more than 14 points in any quarter -- which included a nine-point second period -- on 13-of-45 shooting (28.9%) and 30 total turnovers. UMW outrebounded Salisbury by six, 36-30, with Carpenter leading the way with 12.

Mary Washington had little trouble capitalizing off of Salisbury's misses and turnover as the Eagles scored nearly half of their points (35) on the Sea Gull's turnovers.

UMW jumped out to an 18-11 lead in the first quarter before outscoring Salisbury by 12 in the second quarter, 21-9, to take a 39-20 lead into the halftime break. In the third quarter, Salisbury was outscored by two, 15-13, before being outscored again, 17-14, in the final quarter.

Megan Baxter (13 points) and Sydney Sherman (12) each reached double figures for the Eagles, while Ashley Martin scored eight.

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday with a matchup against Gallaudet that tips off at 5 p.m. in Fredericksburg, Va.
