No. 25 Mary Washington Women's Basketball Outlasts Marymount, 67-60

Using four players who scored in double figures, the No. 25 Mary Washington women's basketball team was able to take down Marymount on Saturday afternoon, 67-60, in Fredericksburg, Va.

Jordan Carpenter (16 points), Ashley Martin (14), Sydney Sherman (14), Keagan Schwab (10) all reached double figures for the Eagles in the victory.

UMW led at the end of the first quarter, 17-12, before Marymount launched a short-lived comeback in the second as the Saints outscored UMW, 17-9.

Mary Washington trailed at the end of the first half, 29-26, before tying the game at 40 with 4:25 left in the third quarter with a bucket from Carpenter in the paint. The Eagles and Saints would end the period tied at 44 after trading baskets for the final four-and-a-half minutes.

The two teams again traded baskets throughout the fourth quarter as the Eagles finally took the last lead of the game on a Martin jumper that put the Eagles up 58-56 with 2:10 left in the game.

On the defensive end, the Eagles held Marymount to an 18-for-48 mark (37.5%) from the floor and a 2-for-16 line (12.5%) from deep. They blocked four shots (Carpenter had three) and recorded 13 total steals as Martin and Sophie Pavlech each had four apiece. UMW forced 19 turnovers with 22 points coming off of those takeaways.

The Eagles are back in action next Saturday against Messiah at the Anderson Center. Tip is set for 1 p.m.
