No. 20 Mary Washington Women's Basketball Rolls Through Grove City, 74-45

The Mary Washington women's basketball team had little trouble in its Friday night 74-45 victory in York's Cancer Classic over Grove City in York, Pa. on Friday night. With the Eagles' victory, they'll move into the four-team tournament's championship game on Saturday afternoon against York.

The Eagles were once again on the defensive prowess once again as they held Grove City to a 14-of-61 mark from the floor (23%) and forced the Wolverines into 32 turnovers.

Mary Washington, offensively, shot 23-of-53 (43.4%) and was 4-of-8 (50%) from deep. Jordan Carpenter led the way for the Eagles with a 6-of-10 performance from the floor (18 points). Keagan Schwab (16; 2-of-3 from deep) and Sydney Sherman (6-of-8 from the floor), weren't too far behind Carpenter.

Megan Baxter scored nine points, while Maddy Jenisch added seven off the bench.

The Eagles' drew a total of 29 fouls, which translated to 36 total free throws. Mary Washington made 24 of them -- which helped cushion its enourmous lead as the Eagles shot 14 of them in the final quarter.

UMW jumped out to a 28-11 lead in the first period and has now outscored its opposition 52-11 in the first quarter in two games this season. The Eagles took a 38-23 lead into the half before holding Grove City to just seven points in the third quarter.

The Eagles will play next against York tomorrow in York's Cancer Classic championship game at 3 p.m.
