UMW Women's Basketball Tops Mount Mary, 93-31, in C2C 1st Round

The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team used a balanced attack to defeat Mount Mary University, 93-31, on Thursday night in the first round of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament at Ron Rosner Arena. The Eagles improve to 21-5 on the season.

The Eagles streaked out to a 28-5 advantage in the first quarter, led by 11 points from junior Elizabeth Dufrane and 10 from junior Jordan Carpenter. The Blue Angels struggled from the field after scoring the first five points of the game, making 2-13 shots in the opening period.

In the second, the Eagles raced to a 23-9 margin. Junior Keagan Schwab led the way in the second, with nine points, while Molly Sharman and Sydney Sherman each netted four. The Eagles led at halftime 51-14.

The Eagles extended their decisive margin in the third and fourth quarters, with sophomore Andrea Lefkowitz pacing the Eagles with eight points, while junior Lexi Miller and freshman Rileigh Weaver each added six. 

Dufrane led the Eagles with 17 points, while Carpenter scored 15 and added 12 rebounds, and Schwab scored 13. Weaver posted nine rebounds to go with her eight points.

The Eagles shot 42.4% from the floor (36-85), making 6-25 three point shots, and 15-22 free throws. Mount Mary shot 21.6% (11-51), making 3-28 three point shots and 6-11 free throws. The Eagles led in rebounds, 69-25, and forced 22 Blue Angel turnovers.

The Eagles will face UC Santa Cruz in the semifinal round on Friday at Ron Rosner Arena at 7:00 p.m.
