Carpenter's 20 Leads UMW Women Past Hood, 91-49, on Wednesday Night

Junior forward Jordan Carpenter scored a game-high 20 points in leading three Eagles in double figures, as the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team defeated Hood College, 91-49, on Wednesday night in Frederick, Md. UMW improves to 19-4 on the season.

The Eagles were dominant on offense and defense from the start, outscoring the Blazers, 29-7, in the first quarter. Carpenter led the way with 12 points in the opening frame, while Keagan Schwab scored five, and Sydney Sherman four. In the second, Schwab led the way with nine points, as the Eagles outscored the Blazers, 20-13. UMW carried a 49-20 lead to halftime.

The Eagles proved dominant in the third, building the lead to 78-31 by outscoring the hosts by a 29-11 margin in the period. UMW used the entirety of the roster in the fourth in closing out the 42-point victory.

Carpenter led the Eagles with 20 points on 5-8 shooting from the field and 10-13 from the free throw line. Schwab scored 17 on 6-12 shooting with three three-point baskets, and Megan Baxter scored 10 points and tied for the team lead with four assists. 

Mary Washington shot 45.1% from the field (32-71), making 6-18 three point attempts, and 21-28 free throws. Hood shot 32.2% (19-59), with 2-12 from distance, and 9-23 from the free throw line. The Eagles won the rebounding battle, 54-37.

The Eagles will be back in action next Wednesday at Christopher Newport University at 5:30 p.m. in Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference action.
