
Sophomore Andrea Lefkowitz recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and junior Jordan Carpenter added 17 points and nine boards to lead the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 78-27 victory over Regent University on Sunday afternoon in Newport News, Va. The Eagles improve to 18-4 on the season.
The Eagles raced in front in the first quarter. After Regent posted the first basket of the game, UMW scored 19 of the next 20 points in the quarter. Carpenter scored the Eagles' first 10 points. In the second, Lefkowitz hauled in five rebounds and added five points to lead a balanced charge.
UMW saw eight players score in the third, outscoring Regent, 21-8, and the Eagles extended to lead to 50 in the fourth. All 14 Eagles scored in the game.
The Eagles were led by Lefkowitz, who shot 6-10 from the floor, and 2-4 from the free throw line. Carpenter scored 14 on 7-9 shooting, and Rileigh Weaver added eight points, going 4-9 from the floor.
UMW shot 42.9% (30-70), making 1-15 three point attempts and 17-32 free throws. Regent shot 21.4% (9-42), with 3-8 three point attempts, and 6-12 free throws. The Eagles led in rebounds, 52-29, and forced 33 turnovers.
The Eagles will be back in action again on Wednesday when they visit Hood College at 6:00 p.m.
