Carpenters' Double-Double Leads UMW Women's Basketball to 68-45 Win Against Meredith College, on Tuesday Night

Junior guard/forward Jordan Carpenter had a great performance against the Avenging Angels of Meredith College, with 24 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, and 5 steals. The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team improves to 7-0 with its 68-45 win against Meredith College on Tuesday night in Fredericksburg, Va. Junior guard Keegan Scwab had 14 points, adding two rebounds and three assists. Sophomore Elizabeth Dufrane had a breakout game off the bench with 15 points, with a pair of both rebounds and assists.

The Eagles kept a close lead, with a 13-10 first quarter. At the half, UMW improved its lead to 10 points with the score being 34-24. The Eagles defense held their own throughout the game against the Avenging Angels, holding the opposing offense to 8 points in the third and 13 in the fourth, all while only giving the ball away 13 times through the games entirety.

The Eagles shot 45.9% from the field (28-61), making 6-17 three point attempts (35.3%), and 6-11 free throws (54.5%). Meredith College shot 42.6% (20-47) from the floor, making 2-5 three point attempts (40%), and 3-5 free throws (60%). The Eagles were outrebounded, 36-29, but forced 26 Avenging Angel turnovers with 15 total steals.

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday to host Southern Virginia University at 6:00 p.m.
