UMW Head Coach Deena Applebury to Appear on Sunday Evening's Hoopsville on D3Hoops.com

UMW Women's head basketball coach Deena Applebury will appear on Sunday night's edition of Hoopsville with Dave McHugh on D3Hoops.com, as part of the annual NCAA Tournament edition of the show. Applebury, fresh off her 300th career win in the Capital Athletic Conference championship at Marymount, will lead the Eagles into the NCAA Tournament with an automatic bid.

Dedicated to Division III since 2000

Hoopsville is the only show dedicated to Division III basketball. The show first hit the air in November 2000 and has had a presence in Division III ever since. The show will celebrate its 13th season starting this November, but even when the show was not available weekly, it could be heard at each and every Division III men’s championship weekend the last 15 years.

Dave McHugh is the creator and host of Hoopsville which broadcasts out of his studios, the WBCA/NABC Studios, in the Baltimore area. The studios are also used for The #WhyD3 Show and other production needs.

Hoopsville now airs Sundays and Thursdays throughout the basketball season starting in November. The show airs for at least two hours usually starting at 7:00 PM ET with archives of each show along with a podcast version.

The show does have several specialty shows and productions throughout the season. Each year at the annual Hoopsville Classic and D3hoops.com Classic, McHugh, Pat Coleman and Gordon Mann host interview segments with coaches and players participating in each event. There is also an annual 12-hour marathon show in late January plus NCAA Tournament selection and bracket specials in late February or early March.

During each episode of Hoopsville, McHugh talks to coaches, players, administrators, reporters, and experts from around the country for their take on what’s going on in the world of Division III basketball. The show also interacts with listeners through Twitter, Facebook, and email. You can follow the show throughout the season and catch up on news in the offseason here:

And while Hoopsville is based in a studio most of the year, the show has traveled and broadcast live at the NCAA Division III men’s basketball championships in Salem, Va., every year since 2001 including special live pre- and postgame coverage the last three seasons. Hoopsville was also on the road at the women’s championship weekend in Holland, Mich., in 2013 along with the men’s championship game in Atlanta the same year. Plans are to take the show to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four in Indianapolis in 2016 when the Division III women will play their title game on the same floor as the D-I and D-II championships.

Hoopsville is proud of its partnership with D3hoops.com, the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, and the City of Salem. Thanks to these partnerships and relationships with other groups including Sports Information Directors, the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Committees, the committee chairs, the NCAA liaisons and others, the show has been able to fill each episode with plenty of guests and content. In the future, the hope is to find sponsors to help offset the costs of running Hoopsville and The #WhyD3 Show.
