Wimmer, McRae Lead UMW Women's Basketball Past Clarkson, 67-47
DAYTONA, FLA. - Sophomores Jenna McRae and Katie Wimmer each scored 17 points on 7-11 shooting to lead the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 67-47 victory over Clarkson University on Tuesday morning in Daytona, Fla. The Eagles improve to 6-2 on the season. The Eagles shot 46% from the floor, while limiting Clarkson to 29% (15-51). UMW held a significant advantage on the boards, outrebounding Clarkson, 51-24. The Eagles had five players with at least five rebounds. In a back and forth first half, Clarkson jumped ahead early, and led 19-11 with 9:04 to play. UMW went on a 24-7 run to close the half, and led, 35-26, at intermission. The Eagles steadily built the lead in the first ten minutes of the second half, and kept the margin near 20 points until the final buzzer. Mary Washington will take on nationally-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Wednesday at noon.
