#24 UMW Women's Basketball Tops York, 75-61, in CAC Semifinals

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team overcame a sizzling shooting start by York College to defeat the Spartans, 75-61, on Thursday night at Goolrick Gymnasium. The Eagles improve to 21-4 on the season, and will host \#7 Marymount University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the CAC Championship.

York began the game on fire from the floor, building a 30-22 lead with 6:51 left in the half. UMW ran off seven straight points to cut the deficit to one at 30-29, and closed the half on a 9-0 run over the last 1:27, keyed by a pair of Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale) layups and a late Rachel Martin (Annandale, Va., Bishop Ireton) three pointer, to lead, 39-34, at halftime.

York shot 58.3% from the floor in the first half (14-24), making 4-8 three pointers and both free throw attempts. UMW shot nearly as well, making 15-28 shots (53.6%), with 5-11 on threes and 4-5 free throws.

The second half saw the Eagles continue to shoot well, mirroring their first half performance with 15-28 shooting. York went cold, however, making 9-29 field goal attempts. UMW started the second half with a 9-2 spurt, thanks in part to four Claire Brooks (Glen Allen, Va., Deep Run) points, to lead by 11, 47-36, with 18:06 to go. UMW steadily built the lead to as many as 19 before finishing with a 14-point win.

UMW outrebounded York, 34-23, and caused 16 Spartan turnovers.

Sophomore guard Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison) led the Eagles with 15 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore forward Lauren Kornacki (Glen Allen, Va., Deep Run) added 14 points off the bench. Sophomore Jenna McRae scored 12 points and added nine assists, senior guard Ashley Reed (Fairfax Station, Va., Robinson) added 12 points, and freshman Carol Dye (Springfield, Va., Lake Braddock) was the fifth Eagle in double figures with 10 points. York was led by Jamie Sapp's 14 points.

The Eagles and Marymount split their two regular season matchups, with each team winning at home. The two teams will meet for the CAC title for the third time in four years. Tickets cost \$6 for adults, \$3 for students, and all UMW faculty, staff, and students will be admitted free with a valid UMW I.D.
