1994-95 Mary Washington College Women's Basketball Season in Review

In a topsy-turvy 1994-95 season, the Mary Washington College women's basketball team learned about the importance of R&R - Resolve and resilience. After losing two All-Conference players and also its leading rebounder from a first-ever NCAA Tournament season in 1993-94 (20-6 record), MWC had to endure other obstacles this past season. But graduation losses, slumps and injuries aside, this young team showed flashes of promise for future seasons. Several Eagle players ranked among the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) leaders in major offensive categories, and a pair of veteran guards shattered the MWC season and career record books.

Mary Washington lost just two seniors to graduation in 1994-95,but one was the school's all-time leading scorer, guard Corinne May. Playing in a school-record 102 games, May scored 1,665 points, and was named to the All-CAC team for the third straight season. She was joined on the All-CAC Second Team by returning point guard Stefanie Teter (Sr./Burke, VA), who finished second nationally in assists at 7.5/ game. She paced the Eagles in steals (4.0/ game; second in CAC) and three-point field goals with 52, while also averaging a career-best 13.4 points/game, second behind May's 19.0.

Teter is already MWC's career assists leader with 413. Another proven backcourt performer is Robin Coates (Sr./Banco, VA), who averaged 10.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.S steals. Sophomores Jill Reilly (Clinton Corners, NY), Julie Harrison (Harrisonburg, VA) and Michele Beagan (Sandwich, MA) provided quality backcourt minutes last year.

While veteran guards provide stability for head coach Connie Gallahan, it is the promise of a young front line which could vault MWC back into regional, and eventually national prominence. Sophomore Lindsay Stover (Springfield, VA) ranked among the CAC's leaders in both free-throw (.760; third) and field-goal (.515; fourth) percentage, while averaging 11.0 points and a team-high 7.Srebounds/game. Amanda O'Brien (5-9/Jr./Miller Place, NY) averaged 9.S points and 7.2 boards. Ashley Seekford (5-11/So./Portsmouth, VA) came off the bench to provide spark at both ends.
