UMW Track Competes at South Region Qualifiers

Three members from the Mary Washington track and field team competed at the NCAA South Region Qualifiers on Saturday afternoon at the Wilkins Center on the campus of Shenandoah University.

Justin Ford and Jacinto Jones II both competed in the men's 60-meter dash and both placed high enough to advance to the finals. Ford finished fourth at a final time of 6.99 seconds, while Jones was fifth with a final time of 7.02 seconds. Ford was the silver medalist at the Coast-to-Coast Conference Championships in Feb.

Sophia Redmond, the first place finisher at the C2C's and school record holder in the 60-meter race, placed fifth in the finals on Saturday, finishing with a final time of 7.86 seconds.

Ford, Jones, and Redmond and the rest of the Eagles will wait and see if they qualify for the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, set to be held in Virginia Beach, Va., next Friday and Saturday. Qualifiers for nationals will be revealed on Sunday.
