UMW Indoor Track Opens Strong at Va. Wesleyan on Friday

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened the 2024 semester at the Virginia Wesleyan University Marlins Invitational on Friday in Virginia Beach.

For the men, freshman Jimmy Volk finished first in the mile with a time of 4:49.57. The Eagles finished 2-3-4 in the 800 meters, as Luke Blair finished second (2:00.75), Jacob Lohr finished third (2:04.69), and Ashton Schultz took fourth (2:06.68). J.D. Jones II finished third in the 60 meters at 6.96 seconds, and Ethan Young was third in the 60 meter hurdles at 8.89 seconds.

On the women's side, Sophia Redmond finished fifth in the 60 meters at 8.03 seconds, and Katherine Armstrong was eighth in the 800 meters at 2:44.62. Kendra White was eighth in the mile, with a time of 6:59.70.

The Eagles will compete again on Saturday in Virginia Beach.
