UMW Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Teams Place Third at C2C Championships

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's outdoor track and field teams each finished in third place at the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday in Newport News, Va. Eagle seniors Darius Reed and Rajai Walton were named as the men's track and field athletes of the meet, respectively.

On the men's side, Walton won the high jump at 2.00 meters, and also took first in the long jump at 7.19 meters, and also finished second in the triple jump at 14.89 meters. On the track, Reed claimed first place in both the 100 meters (with a meet record 10.55 seconds) and the 200 meters (21.64 seconds). Sophomore Ethan Young also captured two titles, in the 100 meter hurdles (15.25 seconds) and the 400 meter hurdles (57.28 seconds). Kevin Munson won the pole vault at 4.36 meters and was third in the javelin.

Nick Onorato finished first in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Aidan Smagh was third in the high jump, and Samuel Gowe was third in the long jump.

UMW finished with 121 points, just six behind second-place Salisbury. Christopher Newport was first with 208, UC Santa Cruz was fourth with 116, and St. Mary's fifth at 39. Pratt was sixth with five points.

For the women, Haileigh Byrd won the triple jump at 11.01 meters, and also took second in the long jump and the 100 meter hurdles, and was third in the 100 meter dash. Grace Pippin was third in the 10,000 meters, Teresa Guzman was third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, and Hannah Unger was third in the high jump. The 4x400 meter relay finished third, as did Maddie Phillips in the pole vault. Faith Jones was third in the javelin.

The women finished with 108.5 points, behind Christopher Newport with 221 and UC Santa Cruz with 125. Salisbury was fourth with 98.5, St. Mary's with 24, and Pratt with five.
