Harrison, Wallace, Villiva Named Interim XC/Track & Field Coaches

Anthony Wallace and Stephen Harrison have been named as interim head cross country/track & field coaches, and Alec Villiva will again assist for the spring of 2022, as Kunle Lawson has accepted a position of director of track & field at Maryville (TN) College, and will assume those duties immediately.

Wallace, Harrison, and Villiva all have extensive knowledge of the Eagle program, having served for years as assistant coaches with the program. All three mentored the men's and women's teams that captured the Capital Athletic Conference Championships.

Wallace has served as sprints coach at UMW for four years, and is a graduate of James Madison University. He owns Action Sports Performance, and is USTFCCCA Speed Specialist Certified.

Harrison, a graduate of UMW, has followed his career in cross country and track with the Eagles as an assistant coach for both programs since 2019.

Villiva served as assistant at UMW from 2014-19, primarily as the distance coach but helped with throws. The Eagles had multiple national qualifiers and conference championships in XC and outdoor track. He has also coached at Illinois Wesleyan University and his alma mater, Slippery Rock University.

"We are grateful for all that Coach Lawson has done in leading our cross country and track and field programs for the past seven years, mentoring such talented young men and women", said UMW Director of Athletics Patrick Catullo. "While we are saddened that Coach is leaving, we are excited for Anthony, Stephen, and Alec's guidance and expertise, and look forward to working with them."

UMW will begin the process of a national search for the next Head Cross Country/Track & Field coach in the Spring 2022.
