UMW Women's Track & Field Takes 2nd at C2C Championships; Men Place 3rd

The University of Mary Washington women's outdoor track and field team finished in second place at the 2021 Coast 2 Coast Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday in Salisbury, Md., while the Eagle men flew to a third place finish.

The women finished with 157 points, just ten behind champion Christopher Newport, and 22 ahead of third place Southern Virginia. UC Santa Cruz was fourth with 97 points, followed by Salisbury with 43 and St. Mary's with 16.

Senior Jackie Smith finished first in the javelin throw, with a distance of 35.91 meters, and freshman Makaila Keyes won the 400 meters at 59.62 seconds and took second in the 200 meters at 26.53 seconds.

Jean Woodrum took second in the discus, at 35.41 meters, Ashley Applegate finished second in the 3000 meter steeplechase at 11:47.15, Vantina Leon Ledezma took second in the 100 meters at 12.79 seconds.

The Eagle men finished in third place with 101 points, behind champion CNU (225) and second-place Salisbury (134), and ahead of Santa Cruz (97), Southern Virginia (44), and St. Mary's (15).

Freshman Ethan Young took first place in the 110 meter hurdles at 15.91 seconds, and senior Tristan Johnson finished first in the discus with a throw of 42.47 meters. Mason Woods finished second in the shot put at 14.00 meters, Wilson Jackson took second in the 400 meters at 51.40 seconds, and Darius Reed finished second in the 100 meters at 11.01.
