UMW Outdoor Track & Field Completes Day One at CAC Championships

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's outdoor track and field teams completed a successful first day at the 2018 Capital Athletic Conference Championships in Salisbury, Md. on Friday. The women are in first place after the first day's events, while the men stand in third place.

The men saw freshman Rajai Walton win the long jump competition at 23 feet, nine inches, while teammate Jose Mundo took third at 22 feet, 11.75 inches. Mundo advanced to the finals of the 100 yard dash, as he ran 11.26 seconds in preliminary action. Mundo also qualified for finals in the 200 yard dash, running 22.66 in the prelims.

On the women's side, senior Samantha Gorton repeated as the conference hammer throw champion with a toss of 154 feet, and junior Jillian Weisbeck won the 10,000 meters at 40:00.26. Freshman Jackie Smith took second in the javelin at 117 feet, five inches, and senior Bethany Wilson finished fourth. Quintasia Horsley was fourth in the long jump, and Yamina James was second in the pole vault, at 11 feet, 0.75 inches.

The Championships will continue in Salisbury on Saturday.
