UMW's Jeff Gibson Named CAC Track Athlete of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington freshman Jeff Gibson and Frostburg State senior J.R. Lowery were named the CAC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for March 28, 2017.

Mary Washington freshman Jeff Gibson was named the CAC Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 10,000 meters at the Jack Toms Invitational on Saturday with the seventh-fastest time in the nation. Gibson crossed the finish line in 31:36.32 to capture top honors. 

 

 

Field Athlete of the Week

J.R. Lowery | Frostburg State | Sr. 

Rohrersville, Md. Boonsboro

Frostburg State senior J.R. Lowery secured CAC Field Athlete of the Week honors for the second straight week after recording the top-three marks nationally in both the shot put and hammer throw at the Jim Taylor Invitational. Lowery won the shot put with a throw of 17.17 meters, good for the top mark in Division III so far this spring. He also placed second in the hammer throw at 54.23 meters, which ranks third in the nation.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Five CAC track & field teams competed last week ... Christopher Newport's Ryan Scott moved into the top-10 nationally in a pair of individual events while posting three victories during the Commonwealth Duals on Saturday at POMOCO Stadium. He won the 100 in 10.80, which ranks fifth in the NCAA this year. He also captured the 110-hurdles in 14.90, which places him seventh in the country. Later, he also ran the anchor leg on the team's victorious 4x100-relay, which finished in 42.19. That clocking also stands seventh in the nation so far this year. All three of his times at the Commonwealth Duals also rank first in the CAC ... Mary Washington's Daniel Forjan won the shot put at the Jack Toms Invitational at Lynchburg on Saturday, with a distance of 51 feet, 9.75 inches. He is ranked seventh in the nation in the shot put. David Danek won the high jump for the Eagles, and is ranked seventh in the nation as well.
