UMW Track and Field Coach Kunle Lawson Announces 2017 Recruiting Class

After a year in which the Mary Washington Track & Field teams struggled, the Eagles are on the comeback trail after bringing in a large and talented recruiting class.  On the women's side the team adds fourteen new members, while the men's class includes twenty-two additions. These incoming athletes fill in vacancies over a wide array of events, and will make an immediate impact at the conference level.

On the track UMW sees its ranks filled with highly accomplished freshmen athletes, including All-State, and All-America honorees. Erin Andrewlevich looks to make a splash at the collegiate level taking on the sprints and Lauren Esprit comes in as a strong hurdler. These ladies are joined on the men's side by Nathaniel Thompson, Camron Rauch, Ryan Davidson, and Josh Fox.

The Eagles have grown in the field events as well. Freshmen Kendall Moses, David Danek, and Eric Ibar will join the men's jumps squad. Along with the jumps Ibar will try his hand as a decathlete, competing in the throws, sprints, and middle distance events as well. Quintasia Horsley will make her mark in the jumps for the women's team.

The group growing the most for the women's team is the pole vault with the quintet of Avery Haislip, Allison Ingraham, Yamina James, Sydney Kalafut, and sophomore Brynne Reeves aiming to rack up points in the highest flying event. They will be joined on the men's side by freshman Duy Nguyen.

The throws group will grow by two. Freshman Luke Robertson looks to strengthen the men's team, while Shippensburg Transfer Sabrina Johnson adds power to the women's team.

In the middle distance and distance events the Eagles gained thirteen new faces on the men's side and seven as part of the women's squad. If you'd like to read about the distance team take a look at our recap of the recruiting class for Cross Country.

Head Coach Kunle Lawson is pleased with the incoming roster and said, "This is an incredibly talented group of young athletes we have joining our program. Not only will many of them make an immediate impact at the conference level, but we have laid the foundation for a team that will achieve great feats in this and the coming years."
