The new track and field facility at the University of Mary Washington nears completion, and all early reviews are exceedingly positive. The facility looks to become available in the very near future, with an eye on hosting the 2017 CAC Championship next Spring.
"We are thrilled to dedicate our new track and field facility at the Battleground", said UMW Director of Athletics Ken Tyler. "It is a state-of-the-art venue that will provide our student-athletes an outstanding place to practice and compete. We look forward to hosting many meets at our new facility, highlighted by the CAC Championships next April! We are grateful to the Board of Visitors for approving the project and are proud that the new track and field facility is another shining example of the University of Mary Washington's commitment to excellence. It's a great day to be an Eagle!"
"We are excited to unveil our new track and field facility to our cross country and track and field teams, who have been patiently waiting for its completion", said UMW Track and Field and Cross Country coach Kunle Lawson. " And we also look forward to hosting meets and showcasing our facility to other teams. I would like to thank our athletic director Ken Tyler for helping make the new facility a reality."
Senior student-athlete Bailey Ratliff echoed the positive reviews. "Having a new track facility is so exciting and the quality of the track is awesome because it allows all student athletes to enjoy a safe and elite addition to the battleground!"
The facility will be dedicated with a ceremony on Saturday, October 22, at noon.
