UMW Women's Track Finishes Fourth at CAC Indoor Championships; Men Place Seventh

The University of Mary Washington women's track and field team finished in fourth place at the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference Championships at Christopher Newport University, while the men finished in seventh place.

The highlight for the day for the Eagles came in the women's weight throw, where seniors Elysa Baker and Taylor Cockerille and junior Sheree Turner took the top three spots, all breaking personal bests. Baker claimed a new conference record in first with a throw of 54 feet, 0.5 inches. Turner finished second at 51 feet, 3.75 inches, and Cockerille was third at 46 feet, 6.25 inches.

Cockerille finished first in the shot put, with a throw of 42 feet, 0.5 inches with another personal record, and Turner took second in the event at 41 feet, three inches.

Colleen Boyle was fourth in the mile at 5:19.33, and Janel Moore finished fourth in the 60 meter dash at 7.97 seconds and third in the 200 meters at 26.35 seconds. The distance medley relay of Marin Bader, Moore, Amanda Patterson, and Jillian Weisbeck took fourth at 13:29.59. Weisbeck finished fifth in the 5K at 19:08.

The Eagle men saw Chris Anderson finish fifth in the 800 meters at 1:58.16, and the distance medley relay of Anderson, Kevin McCarthy, Tate Houff, and Ben Sorenson finished third at 10:57.19. Daniel Forjan was sixth in the weight throw at 45 feet, 5.25 inches.
