UMW Women Take Third at CAC Indoor Track Championships; Men Take Fifth

The University of Mary Washington indoor track and field teams competed at the Capital Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday. The women finished in third place, just one point off of second, while the men finished fifth.

For the women, senior Claire Harrington won the pole vault, setting a meet record with a leap of 11 feet, 3.75 inches. Sophomore Teagan Young broke her own meet mark in the 5000 meters, winning with a time of 18:04.65, and also won the 3000 meters with a new meet record time of 10:39.35.

Rachel Lewis finished first in the mile run with a time of 5:16.92. Lewis finished second in the 800 meters at 2:20.76.

Sheree Turner finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 47 feet, 11 inches. Taylor Cockerille finished second in the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 3.5 inches.

The men saw senior Nick Judy finish first in the pole vault with a leap of 13 feet, 11.25 inches. Sophomore Ben Sorensen finished first in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:50.26, and he also finished second in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:16.78, the second fastest in meet history.
