The Mary Washington softball team split a Thursday afternoon with Marymount in Arlington, Va. The Eagles took Game 1 with a final score of 7-6.

Game 1 - Eagles win - 7-6

Mary Washington scored three runs in the first inning when Bridget Laychak reached on an error by the left fielder that allowed Laychak, Shelby Presgrave and Hannah Steele to all score to give the Eagles a 3-0 at the end of the first. Then, the Eagles scored another run on Steele's sac fly in the top of the second.

The Saints came back to take a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the third with a five-run inning, but the Eagles would later tie it in the fourth with Emily Angel's sac fly at five.

In the sixth, the Saints scored another run to take a 6-5 lead, but the Eagles took the lead in the top of the seventh with Erica Shoop's two-run go-ahead double.

Brooklynne James (1.1 innings) and Caitlyn Burch (3.1 innings) were fantastic out of the bullpen for the Eagles as the pair combined to allow just one unearned run.

Game 2 - Eagles lose - 10-5

UMW jumped out to a second 3-0 lead in the first when Steele scored on a throwing error after Presgrave's bunt single. Then, Laychak reached on a fielder's choice that scored Presgrave, and finally, Emily Angel singled home Kennedy Darling for the third run of the inning.

In the second, UMW pushed its lead to 4-2 when Presgrave doubled to center field, which allowed Steele to score once again. But in the bottom half, UMW yielded six runs to fall behind 8-5.

In the fourth, the Eagles scored another run to draw a little closer, 9-5, as Presgrave tripled to center, driving in Steele again. But in the end, the Eagles fell 10-5.
