UMW Softball Swept in DH with Gettysburg

The Mary Washington softball team was swept in its Friday doubleheader with Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pa.

Game 1 - Eagles lose - 11-3

The Eagles fell behind by two runs early, but managed to take the lead in the top of the third as they scored three runs as Bridget Laychak recorded an RBI single, then Emily Angel singled a pair home to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead.

But then the Bullets scored four in the bottom half, two more in the fourth and then finally three more in the sixth to come away with the victory in six innings.

Angel, meanwhile, was the only Eagle to record a multi-hit game.

Game 2 - Eagles lose - 4-2

After four scoreless innings, Gettysburg was able to break through with four runs in the fifth, while the Eagles countered with their two in the sixth.

Emily Angel roped an RBI single into center field for the Eagles first run, while Emma Schieda doubled Angel home for the Eagles second run.

In the circle, Caitlyn Burch gave the Eagles the start they needed for a win as she tossed six innings for UMW, yielding four unearned runs, while striking out five.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday with a doubleheader at Stevenson.
