UMW Softball Falls to #3 Salisbury, 6-2, in Game One of C2C Tournament

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a 6-2 decision to third ranked Salisbury University on Thursday afternoon in game one of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament in Newport News, Va. 

Salisbury started with a run in the first inning, before the Eagles tied the score with one in the top of the second. Emma Schieda reached on an error to open the frame, and came around to score on a single from Grace Drury

The Sea Gulls went back ahead with a run in the second, one in the third, and added three in the fifth. UMW added another run in the sixth, as Maggie Mrowka walked, advanced to third on a Schieda single, and scored on a strikeout passed ball.

Hannah Steele led the Eagles with a 3-3 day at the plate. Caitlyn Burch took the loss, allowing two earned runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings, with one walk and no strikeouts. Taylor Hudson relieved and allowed three unearned runs in 2.2 innings, with one walk and five strikeouts.

The Eagles will face the loser of today's Salisbury/Christopher Newport game tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. in an elimination game in the tournament.
