UMW Softball Drops Saturday Pair at #14 CNU

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a Saturday Coast 2 Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader at 14th ranked Christopher Newport University by 8-0 scores. The Eagles slip to 7-15 overall, and 1-5 in league play.

In the opener, the Captains scored one in the secon, three in the third, and four in the fourth for an 8-0 victory. CNU pitcher Emily Weatherhltz no-hit the Eagles over five innings.

Caitlyn Burch took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on six hits in 3.2 innings, with four walks and four strikeouts.

The second game stayed scoreless until the third, when the Captains posted one run. They would add two in the fourth and five in the fifth for the 8-0 victory. Rachel Porchie singled and walked, and Bridget Laychak singled.

Hadlea Valera took the loss in game two, allowing three runs on five hits in 3.1 innings, with no walks and one strikeout.

The Eagles will host Shenandoah University on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. for a nonconference doubleheader.
