UMW Softball Drops Wednesday Doubleheader at Randolph-Macon

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a pair of contests at Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday afternoon by scores of 4-0 and 6-2. The Eagles slip to 5-7 on the season.

The first game was a classic pitcher's duel, as neither team would score for the first five innings. The hosts posted four runs in the sixth on a walk, three of their five hits in the game, and an error.

UMW's lone hit came from second baseman Maggie Mrowka. Freshman pitcher Caitlyn Burch allowed one earned run on five hits in six innings, with two walks and no strikeouts.

The second game saw the Jackets jump ahead with two runs in the first and three in the second. UMW scored its first run in the third, as Hadlea Valera and Logan Gibson singled, and Mrowka followed with an RBI ground out.

After RMC added a run in the fifth, the Eagles plated another in the sixth, as Rachel Porchie doubled and Emma Schieda singled, before Grace Drury singled to score Porchie.

Porchie and Riahna Jordan posted doubles to lead the Eagle offense. Valera took the loss in the circle, allowing six runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings.

The Eagles will return to action on Thursday when they visit the University of Lynchburg at 1:00 p.m. for a doubleheader.
