UMW Softball Drops Saturday Twinbill at #6 Salisbury in C2C Action

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to sixth ranked Salisbury University, 3-0 and 6-1, on Saturday afternoon in Coast 2 Coast Athletic Conference action. The Eagles slip to 5-3 on the year.

In the opener, Salisbury scored single runs in the first, second, and third innings - one earned - in a 3-0 victory. Freshman pitcher Cautlyn Burch went the distance, allowing three runs, one earned, on three hits in six innings, with one walk allowed and six strikeouts. Freshman shortstop Bridget Laychak accounted for the Eagles' lone hit.

In game two, the Eagles scored first, as Maggie Mrowka singled, stole second and advanced to third on an error, and scored on a Laychak single. Rachel Porchie and Brooklynne James also collected singles for the Eagles.

Freshman pitcher Stephanie Folkner took the loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits, with one walk and one strikeout. Sophomore Hadlea Valerapitched four innings of one-run, one-hit relief, with two strikeouts.

The Eagles will return home for a Sunday noon doubleheader against the University of Lynchburg.
