UMW Softball Falls to Wilkes in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday, 7-2

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a 7-2 decision to Wilkes University on Wednesday afternoon in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Eagles slip to 3-2 on the season.

UMW jumped ahead in the first, as freshman Rachel Remer singled and scored on an RBI double from Danielle Newman. Wilkes jumped ahead in the second, using a pair of Eagle errors to score six runs to take command. 

The Eagles drew closer in the fifth, as Hannah Bruns and Remer singled before another run-scoring double from Newman. Wilkes closed the game with an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth.

Newman's two doubles and two RBI led the Eagle offense, while Remer added a pair of singles and Rachel Porchie a double. Jena Calvitti took the loss for the Eagles, allowing two earned runs on three hits in 1.1 innings, with two walks and one strikeout.

The Eagles will continue in Myrtle Beach on Thursday with a pair of scheduled games.
