ANNANDALE – The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) has announced the 2018 College Division All-State softball team Thursday.

The 2018 NCAA Division III National Champion Virginia Wesleyan Marlins won three out of the four major awards this year. 

Cassetty Howerin won her third straight Player of the Year award. Howerin a catcher and infielder had 26 extra base hits and knocked in 62 RBIs as a senior. She also captured her third straight NFCA All-America honor.

VWU head coach Brandon Elliot took home his third consecutive Coach of the Year honor after leading the Marlins to back-to-back national championships. Elliot also led VWU to an NCAA DIII record 55 victories.

Hannah Hull, who was last season's Pitcher and Freshman of the Year, garnered Pitcher of the Year accolades after posting a 40-2 mark. 

Patty Maye Ohanian of Christopher Newport was named Rookie of the Year after hitting .484 with 15 double, three triples, 12 home runs and 68 RBIs. Ohanian was also 5-2 in the circle and fanned 22 batters.

VaSID names 27 all-state teams in 15 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership to VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a University or conference in the state of Virginia.
