The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped their doubleheader to fourth-ranked Christopher Newport University on Wednesday evening in Fredericksburg, Va. The Eagles fell 10-1 in five innings in the first game, and 7-3 in the second game. UMW slips to 14-19-1 overall, and 3-6-1 in the CAC.

The Captains got it going early as they scored all 10 of their runs in the first three innings. Danielle Newman delivered a double to left field that scored both of them and put the Eagles down one, 3-2. Malia Rogers then came up and reached on an error, and Newman advanced to third. Hibbs came up to pinch hit and brought home Newman on a sacrifice fly that tied the game up at three a piece.

In the seventh inning, the Captains added four runs to take the lead 7-3. UMW tried to rally in their half of the seventh inning but came up short as they left runners on second and third.
