Otterman Dominates on Senior Day as the Eagles Sweep York (Pa.) on Sunday

The University of Mary Washington softball team swept York (Pa.), 1-0 and 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 19-11 on the season, and 7-5 in conference play. The senior day sweep also gave UMW their third and fourth wins of the weekend.

The opener saw a hard fought pitching battle between York pitcher Courtney Martin and UMW pitcher Hannah Otterman.  The scoring drought ended in the fourth inning as the Eagles scored the only run of the game.

In the fourth, Otterman started things off with a single to center. Teammate Olivia Tatara then drove in Otterman when she tripled down the left field line.

Otterman picked up the win for the Eagles, giving up four hits while striking out five. She also contributed three hits of her own and scored the only run of the game.

Tatara had two hits and an RBI and Emily Briggs had two hits for the Eagles.

In the second contest, UMW struck early and took a 1-0 lead. The leadoff hitter, senior Brittany Scites homered left to get the Eagles going.

In the second inning, the Eagles capped off the scoring for the game at 2-0. Tatara started the inning off by doubling to center field. Otterman picked up where she left off in the first game, as she singled to center to score Tatara.

Senior Rachel Watts picked up the win for UMW, giving up four hits while striking out five.

Otterman continued to dominate as she led the Eagles with two hits and an RBI. Scites, Hautz, Tatara, and Hannah Williams each contributed a hit.

The Eagles will be back in action on Monday as they travel to Frostburg State University for a doubleheader at 3:00 p.m.
