UMW Softball Drops Pair to #2 Salisbury, 4-1 and 4-0, on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a doubleheader to CAC rival Salisbury University, 4-1 and 4-0, on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 10-6 on the season.

In the opener, Salisbury scored once in the first and twice in the third, before UMW posted a run in the bottom of the third. Hannah Williams led off with a single and was sacrificed to second. Williams took third on a wild pitch, and scored on another wild pitch.

The Sea Gulls added an insurance run in the seventh for the 4-1 win. Brittany Scites led the Eagles with a pair of hits. Erin Stinson took the loss for the Eagles, allowing one earned run on six hits in 2.2 innings.

In the nightcap, the only scoring in the game came by Salisbury in a four-run third inning. Emily Briggs had two hits for UMW.

Rachel Watts took the loss for UMW, allowing oine earned run in 2.1 innings on three hits and one walk.

The Eagles will return to action on Sunday when they visit North Carolina Wesleyan College at 1:00 p.m.
