UMW Softball Drops Twinbill to Randolph-Macon on Thursday

The University of Mary Washington softball team fell short to Randolph-Macon in both games of the Thursday doubleheader. The Eagles drop to 6-4 on the season, while Randolph-Macon improves to 3-1.

In the first contest, a three-run homer by Randolph-Macon in the fourth inning extended the Yellow Jackets lead to 4-0. The Eagles bounced back with two runs of their own. Olivia Tatara singled to right field, scoring teammate Alex Tenney to make the score 4-1. Later in the inning the Eagles notched another run when Malia Rogers scored on an error made by Randolph-Macon.

The Yellow Jackets scored runs in the sixth and seventh innings to finalize the score at 6-2.  Tatara finished with two hits and one RBI for the Eagles.

In the second game, Randolph-Macon jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning.  They drilled in four more runs in the fourth to increase the lead to 7-0. Later in the fourth, Zoie Patrick scored on an error to bring the score to 7-1.

The Eagles rallied and hit in two more runs in the seventh, but fell short 7-3. Alex Tenney lead the Eagles with two hits. Rogers and Brittany Scites each tallied an RBI.

UMW will return to action on Sunday when they host Shenandoah at 12:30 p.m.
