
The University of Mary Washington softball team closed its spring trip to Myrtle Beach with wins over Neumann College and Messiah College on Friday. The Eagles improve to 6-2 on the season.
Using a four-run first inning, the Eagles topped Neumann, 7-2, in the opener. Hannah Williams led the offense with three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs. First baseman Emily Briggs had a pair of hits, an RBI, and two runs scored. Olivia Tatara drove in a pair of runs. Hannah Otterman picked up the win for UMW.
In the nightcap, the Eagles fell behind, 2-0, but tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. Hannah Hautz hit the game-winning double with two outs in the seventh, scoring Brittany Scites. Scites led the Eagles with three hits, while Alex Tenney added a pair of hits. Erin Stinson gained the win in relief for the Eagles.
UMW will return to action on Thursday when they host Randolph-Macon College at 3:30 p.m.
