UMW Softball Drops Twinbill at Randolph-Macon

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a Thursday doubleheader at Randolph-Macon College, 2-0, and 9-3, in Ashland, Va.

The Eagles fell in the opener, as the Yellow Jackets cored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Senior center fielder Brandee Adams and sophomore pitcher Hannah Otterman each had two hits for the Eagles in game one.

Otterman went the distance for UMW, allowing two runs on seven hits in six innings, walking none and striking out two.

In the nightcap, the Eagles fell, 9-3. Trailing 1-0 in the second, the Eagles scored as Stefannie Asselanis singled, advanced to second on a groundout, and scored on an error. UMW scored again in the seventh as Bireet Chitty reached on a fielder's choice, stole second, and scored on an Emily Briggs single.

In the nightcap, Brittany Scites had a double and two singles, and Chitty added two hits.

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday when they visit Lynchburg College for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
