UMW Softball Sweeps Wesley in CAC Twinbill


The University of Mary Washington softball team swept a Saturday doubleheader in Capital Athletic Conference action at the Battleground over Wesley College, winning the opener 9-0 in five innings, and winning, 8-0, in six innings in the second. UMW improves to 15-11 overall and 4-0 in CAC play.

In game one, UMW scored three times in the first, as Brandee Adams tripled, Kerry Busby doubloed, and Morgan Lamon singled, and Brittany Scites doubled to plate Lamon. The Eagles added four runs in the second, with Busby's two-run triple being the big hit. UMW added two in the third as Amanda Adams singled and Hannah Williams and Hannah Otterman doubled.

Otterman cruised in the pitcher's circle, allowing just two hits and walking none while striking out six in gaining her seventh win of the year.

In game two, the Eagles plated two in the second on RBI singles from Koah Chitty and Alex Tenney, and added one in the third on Brianna D'Agata's sacrifice fly. The Eagles scored twice in the fifth and three more in the sixth for the eight-run cushion.

Lamon went 4-4 with two doubles and two singles to lead the Eagles, while Kat Preseren went 2-2 with a single and double. Amanda Adams, Annie Blaine, and Tenney each had two singles as well. Blaine allowed two hits in six innings, walking none and striking out three.

Mary Washington will return to action on Tuesday when they visit York College for a key CAC twinbill starting at 3:00 p.m.
