UMW Softball Splits With Frostburg; Gains Two Seed for CAC Tournament

The University of Mary Washington softball team swept its Saturday doubleheader at Frostburg State University, winning the opener, 2-0, to gain the second seed in next week's Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. The Eagles move to 22-16 on the year, and 9-3 in league play.

In game one, freshman pitcher Hannah Otterman allowe djust four hits in seven innings, walking none and striking out six to gain the win. At the plate, Brittany Scites and Michelle Durnavich led the way, as Scites singled twice and Durnavich singled and doubled.

UMW opened the scvoring in the fourth, as Amanda Adams doubled and scored on a Morgan Lamon single. The Eagles scored in the fifth with four straight singles, starting with Scites and ending with an RBI single from Brandee Adams.

In the nightcap, Frostburg won, 13-4. The Eagles scored two in the first and two in the third, but the Bobcats scored the final 11 runs in the win. Lamon singled, doubled, and walked, while Bireet Chitty added two hits for UMW. Hannah Williams added a two-run double.


Mary Washington will host fifth-seeded Stevenson University on Tuesday in the first round of the CAC Tournament. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
