GAME ONE  |  GAME TWO

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader to visiting Hood College on Monday afternoon at the Battleground. Hood won the opener, 8-1, before taking the second game, 4-3.

The Eagles fell behind early in the opener, as Hood scored three times in the first inning. After the Eagles scored once in the fifth, but Hood answered with three in the sixth and two in the seventh for the 8-1 triumph.

Offensively, UMW was led by Morgan Lamon (Herndon, Va., Oakton) and Elizabeth Crowe (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac), who each had a pair of hits. Crowe took the loss on the bump for the Eagles, as Hood scored eight times on 12 hits.

The second game saw the Eagles take a 3-1 lead into the fourth, but Hood scored once in the fourth and twice in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead. With two outs in the sixth, the game was delayed because of lightning, and an ensuing downpour and hail storm finished the day.

The second game saw Lamon and Crowe again lead at the plate, as both went 2-3 with an RBI. Lamon also scored once. Freshman Annie Blaine (Arlington, Va., Yorktown) took the defeat, allowing three earned runs in five innings.

Mary Washington will host Virginia Wesleyan college on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
