The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a 9-1 decision at Bridgewater College on Sunday in Bridgewater, Va. The Eagles fall to 5-15-1 overall on the year.
Bridgewater scored one in the first, two in the second, one in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth. The Eagles plated their run in the first when Kaitlin Petrella (Leesburg, Va., Heritage) scored Brandee Adams (Waverly, Va., Tidewater Academy) on a sacrifice fly.
UMW got hits from Adams, Elizabeth Crowe (Alexandria, Va., West Potomac), Amanda Adams (Ashburn, Va., Stone Bridge), Krissy Leber (Mechanicsville, Va., Atlee) and Katie Sterling (Arlington, Va., Yorktown). Freshman Annie Blaine (Arlington, Va., Yorktown) allowed two runs in one inning in taking the loss.
The second game of the twinbill was rained out.
Mary Washington will host Christopher Newport University on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
