
The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated Christopher Newport University, 5-3, in the 2024 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference championship on Sunday at the UMW Indoor Tennis center. The Eagles improve to 16-7 on the season.
Christopher Newport gained the first point at two doubles, but the Eagles rebounded to take flight one, as Rishi Charan Shankar and Peter Leese defeated Nesh Kumaresan and Vincent Truong, 8-3, and UMW went ahead with an 8-5 win at three by Brock Ladehoff and Andrew Cooper over Ahun Vodela and Alex Seretis.
Evan Fisher scored the first singles point, with a 6-3, 6-1 win at six over Seretis. CNU then scored wins at four and five to knot the match at 3-3, but wins from Artis Hart at three, 6-4, 7-6(5) and Ladehoff at two, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, clinched the match.
The win is the Eagles' third straight conference title, and 27th overall. UMW will advance to next weekend's NCAA Toiurnament, and will learn their fate on Monday at the NCAA selection show, which airs on ncaa.com at 12:30 p.m.
