UMW Men's Tennis Tops Transylvania, 5-0, in NCAA Tournament 1st Round

The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team opened the NCAA Tournament on Friday with a 5-0 victory over Transylvania University in Cleveland, Ohio. The Eagles improve to 11-9 on the season, and advance to Saturday's second round.

The Eagles swept all three doubles matches, picking up quick wins at two and three. Brock Ladehoff and Peter Leese topped Jordan Cordrey and Eli Skaggs at two, 8-1, and Andrew Cooper and Artis Hart defeated Jared Wells and Alejandro Perez at three, 8-0.

In singles, Leese defeated Cordrey at five, 6-1, 6-0, and Cooper scored the clincher with a 6-2, 6-2 win at six over Wells.

UMW will face #14 Denison University on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in second round action.
