Michael Fleming Named CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the second week of the 2020 spring tennis season. Mary Washington senior Michael Fleming earned CAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades.

 

MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Michael Fleming - Mary Washington

Senior Michael Fleming picked up a pair of singles wins and a pair of doubles wins as #15 Mary Washington defeated #22 Sewanee, 5-4, on Saturday and #31 Stevens, 7-2, on Sunday. Against Sewanee, Fleming and Moses Hutchison won at one doubles, 8-4, and he then gained a three-set win at four singles to clinch the match for the Eagles, winning, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. On Sunday against Stevens, Fleming and Hutchison won at one doubles, 8-4, and Fleming followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win at three singles.

LEAGUE NOTES

#15 Mary Washington women fell on the road at the University of Maryland, 4-0, as the Eagles moved to 2-0 against Division III schools and 0-2 against Division I schools this spring...Southern Virginia freshman Marcos Dias continued his impressive 2019-20 season picking up a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No.1 singles spot as the Knights went on to win Stevenson 8-1. The next day, despite the team falling to No.33 Swarthmore Dias picked up his second win of the week at No.1 singles taking down his opponent 6-3, 6-2. In the last match of the week, the Knights took down Franklin & Marshall 6-3. Dias and his doubles partner Ben Spencer topped their opponents 8-5. He remained undefeated on the week securing the win defeating his last opponent 6-2, 6-3...Senior Ian Siew went 3-0 in both singles and doubles play to help Salisbury collect three wins to start the season. Siew teamed with Alec Angradi to earn three wins in No. 1 doubles. The seventh-ranked tandem in the nation secured an 8-4 win against Virginia Wesleyan and a pair of 8-5 wins against Mehodist and Goucher. Competing in No. 1 singles against Virginia Wesleyan, Siew took down Methodist's Timothy Tep 6-2, 6-0. Siew followed that performance with a pair of two-set wins in No. 2 singles against Methodist and Goucher.
