UMW Men's Tennis Unanimous Pick for Top Spot in CAC Preseason Coaches Poll

YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington was once again the unanimous choice to sit atop the CAC this spring in a preseason vote among the conference men's tennis coaches. The Eagles, who are seeking their 18th straight CAC crown this season, received seven first-place votes and 49 points to land atop the poll.

Christopher Newport, which has finished as the conference runner-up each of the last two seasons, secured one first-place vote and 43 points to place second in the poll. Salisbury followed in third with 37 points.

Southern Virginia, which finished fourth in 2016 for its first-ever CAC Tournament appearance, was picked to finish fourth with 28 points, followed closely by St. Mary's in fifth with 26 points.

York landed in sixth in the poll with 21 points, followed by Penn State Harrisburg (11 points) and Frostburg State (9 points).

All CAC teams have begun their spring campaigns as we enter late March, with over half of the squads sporting .500 records or better. CAC play heats up over the next few weeks, with numerous matchups on the slate.

The teams will battle through April to gain one of the five CAC playoff spots, culminating with the two finalists playing for the CAC crown and an NCAA automatic bid on Friday, April 21.
