UMW's Perugini, Diffley Named CAC Tennis Players of the Week

YORK, Pa. - - The Capital Athletic Conference announced its Sept. 27, 2016, weekly award winners:

Mary Washington junior Nolan Perugini was named the CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week after starting the year 6-1 in singles and 5-1 in doubles, primarily against Division I competition. Competing against Division I opponents at the Navy Invitational this past weekend, Perugini won four singles matches to advance to the E flight finals. He defeated Sam Oberholtser of Delaware, 6-4, 6-0 in the first round, top-seeded Cam Kirkpatrick of Navy, 6-3, 6-3, in the second, Steven Hollander of Temple, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the quarters, and Joe Quenart of Richmond, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, in the semis before falling in the finals to Max Kane of Bucknell, 6-2, 6-3. In doubles, Perugini and Derek Hagino won the C flight in doubles, topping Krisinski and Vrana of Mount St. Mary's, 6-2, McDonald and Sacco of Bucknell, 6-2, and Hollander and Kane of Temple in the finals, 6-3.

Mary Washington senior Taylor Diffley was selected as the CAC Player of the Week after teaming with junior Caroline Mosberg to advance to the finals of the ITA Southeast Regional this weekend, winning four matches before falling in the final in three sets to Johns Hopkins, 6-7, 6-4, 10-5. In singles, Diffley advanced to the third round before falling to eventual champion Brooke Donnelly of Washington & Lee in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6. She also picked up a win over George Mason last week in singles, and she and Mosberg stand at 6-2 in doubles play thus far.​
