#26 UMW Men's Tennis Blanks Southern Virginia, 9-0, in CAC Semifinals

The 26th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated Southern Virginia University, 9-0, on Wednesday in the semifinal round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. The Eagles improve to 17-9 on the season, while the Knights finish at 11-10.

UMW started with three wins in doubles, with Brandon Griffin and Matt Miles winning at one, 8-2, over TJ Snelson and Justin Fullmer, and Derek Hagino and Axel Jobeus winning at three, 8-2. David Lunding-Johansson and Patrick Hughes completed the sweep with an 8-6 win at two.

The Eagles picked up straight set wins in singles from Eric Hurwitz at three, 6-1, 6-0, over Dallin Evans, Matt Miles at four, 6-1, 6-3, over Fullmer. Hughes defeated Brennan Alford at five, 6-0, 6-3, and Hagino won at six, 6-0, 6-2, over Kjell Henness.

Griffin won at one over Tyler Clark, 7-6, 6-2, and Lunding-Johansson won at two over Snelson, 6-3, 6-0, to complete the shutout.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they host #27 Christopher Newport University for the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference championship at 3:00 p.m.
