
The 17th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team swept every match in a 9-0 victory at Whittier College on Thursday in California. The Eagles improve to 7-2 on the season.
The Eagles easily won doubles matches, as Tyler Carey and Evan Charles won at one, 8-2, Andrew Curtis and Stratton Gilmore won at two, 804, and Brandon Griffin and David Lunding-Johansson won at three, 8-4.
UMW then won all six singles matches, five in straight sets. Carey won at one, 6-1, 6-2; Lunding-Johansson won at two, 6-4, 6-2; Gilmore won at three, 6-3, 6-0; Charles won at four, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3; Griffin won at five, 6-2, 6-4; and Eric Hurwitz won at six, 6-4, 6-1.
Mary Washington will close its western trip on Saturday when they visit the University of Redlands.
