#15 UMW Men's Tennis Roars Back to Top #20 Cal Lutheran, 5-4, on Monday in California

Trailing 3-0 after doubles, and 4-2 with three matches remaining, the #15 University of Mary Washington men's tennis team used three third set wins to top #20 Cal Lutheran, 5-4, on Monday in California. The Eagles improve to 6-2 on the season.

Cal Lutheran took a commanding lead by winning all three doubles matches, including a grueling 9-8 win at number one. The Eagles used straight set wins from Stratton Gilmore at two and David Lunding-Johansson at three, but Cal Lutheran picked up a point at one singles, giving the hosts a 4-2 advantage with three matches still on.

Senior Evan Charles at four and sophomore Brandon Griffin at five won third sets by identical 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 scores to tie the score, leaving freshman Eric Hurwitz as the last man on. Hurwitz won, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, to clinch the match for UMW.

The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday when they visit 19th ranked Whittier College at 5:00 p.m.
