UMW Men's Tennis Starts ITA Regional With Top Results on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team opened play in the ITA Regional Tournament on Saturday, with three singles players and two doubles teams advancing through day one.

In singles, third seeded Tyler Carey downed Jack Kasbeer, 6-1, 6-3, in the first round, and Ari Cepelewicz, 6-3, 6-0, in the round of 32. Ninth seeded Stratton Gilmore defeated Bryce Beisswanger, 6-4, 6-2, and Ethan Markman, 6-3, 6-2. Nolan Perugini downed Blake Oetting, 7-5, 5-7, 6-1, and Kyle Hartfield, 6-4, 5-1 (inj.).

In doubles, ninth seeded Gilmore and Brandon Griffin downed Bacchieri and Samuels, 8-1, to advance to Sunday, while Andrew Curtis and David Lunding-Johansson defeated Ang and Chen, 8-1.

The round of 16 in singles and doubles will reconvene starting Sunday morning at the UMW Edward Hegmann II Tennis Complex.
