The University of Mary
Washington men's tennis team advanced to the third round of the
NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday, defeating Kalamazoo
College, 5-2, in second round action in Gambier, Ohio. The Eagles
will face host and fourth-ranked Kenyon College on Sunday at noon,
with the winner advancing to the national quarterfinals in Cary,
N.C., on May 22.
The Eagles won two of three doubles matches on Saturday, including an exciting 9-8 (6) win by NCAA Doubles Championship participants Donato Rizzolo and Evan Charles at one. Sophomore Alex Blakhin gave UMW its third point with a 7-6 (5), 6-4 win at one, and freshman Evan Charles won, 7-6 (4), 6-3 at three. Junior Will Apperson provided the clinching point at five, winning 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4).
